This guideline is designed to help you keep organized, make running your Blood Drive simpler, and help you achieve success!

Start publicity campaign: Articles in bulletin, newsletter, local newspaper, community bulletin board, mass e-mail, etc.

Distribute Materials: Posters, flyers around your building, community, and neighboring businesses.
Blood Stars: Assign Blood Stars to recruit and sign-up donors; sign up sheets and donor pledge cards to captains.
Remind those not eligible to donate they can still assist the blood drive by helping to recruit donors.
Begin active recruitment of donors: assign a call list to committee members (previous donor list, directory of members from Company, Office Complex, Church or Organization).
You will achieve best results through person to person contact; as in phone calls and sign up tables.

Continue making person-to-person contact –
ASK for the donation!
If you are supplying refreshments - juice, coffee, water and something to eat should be available at the beginning of the drive. Very often, local businesses will donate refreshments for your drive! Just ask!

Site confirmation: For inside the drive, confirm that the site will be available 1 ½ hours before Drive starts. Arrange for long tables and chairs to be available for donors and staff. For the self-contained unit (bus) Drives, have a plan to reserve 6 parking spaces.
Follow up with Press contacts. Do they need any more information to run a story?
Ask the press if they would like to cover the event LIVE! Remember, this is “Community News”!

FAX a copy of your sign up sheet to your Blood Center representative at (609) 895-0373.
Your sign up sheet is very important! It is our last opportunity to make staffing changes.
Finalize plans for Blood Drive Day and review this checklist for overlooked items.

For inside drives, blood donation site should be clean, all unnecessary furniture removed, tables and chairs in place.
For the self-contained unit, confirm 6 parking spaces for the bus to park.
Provide for someone to be at the donor site to greet the Blood Center staff when they arrive.
Remind donors they must have eaten within four hours prior to donating and bring a signature I.D. with them.
Remind all donors of their scheduled appointment.
