Local Blood Supply at a Critical Level
Desperate Need for All Negative Blood Types
Ewing Twp., NJ…January 24, 2005…The weekend’s snowstorm has had a major impact on donations at the area’s major blood bank. The Community Blood Council of New Jersey (CBC-NJ) reports that current blood supplies are at a critically low level, especially all negative blood types. “We have a desperate need for all blood types at this time,” states James J. Gosnay, CBC-NJ’s CEO. “However, our most crucial need is for donors who have negative blood types, most especially Type O-.”
Additionally, seasonal colds have cut into CBC-NJ’s regular donor base, and donations are down due to illness as well as the results of the storm. “Dealing with illness is a constant challenge that we face during the winter months,” Mr. Gosnay explained further, “but the weekend’s snow storm has really put a freeze on the blood supply.” If you’re at least seventeen years of age, in good health and weigh at least 110 lbs., the Community Blood Council of New Jersey asks that you please call to make an appointment to donate. They are located at 1410 Parkside Avenue in Ewing Township; their toll-free number is 1-866-2GiveNJ (1-866-244-8365), or online at www.CommunityBloodCouncil.org.
