•• EXTREMELY CRITICAL NEED FOR BLOOD! ••
Community Blood Council of New Jersey at “Code Orange”
Our hospitals’ need for blood and blood products – always critical – has now reached the desperate stage. We have less than a one-day blood supply on hand. Should there be any sort of disaster, we will simply not have enough blood for on hand for us to supply to our area hospitals.
“The holiday season really takes a toll,” comments Barbara Godwin, Director of Donor Recruitment. “During the month of December, fewer donors come to the center and attend our blood drives. Additionally, fewer companies and groups schedule drives at their offices or meeting places, and that contributes to the short-fall.”
The Community Blood Council of New Jersey expected donations in January to take off, especially since it is National Volunteer Blood Donor Month. Unfortunately, it just hasn’t happened. We were hoping to replenish the supply fairly early on in the month, but donations are lagging significantly behind last year.
“We don’t have the total picture yet,” remarked CEO Patrick Deschenes. “It may be somewhat due to the severity of the cold weather we’ve been experiencing, or people being ill with a cold or the flu. But the outcome is that we have gone beyond the critical need for blood,” he stated. “Now the need is desperate.”
If you can donate, we urge you to please come in or call for an appointment. Our hours are 7 am-9 pm Monday through Thursday; 7 am-5 pm on Friday; and 7 am-1 pm on Saturday. The Community Blood Council of New Jersey’s telephone number is (609) 883-9750. Our address is 1410 Parkside Avenue, Ewing Township, at the corner of Olden Avenue.
