Trenton’s Bravest go to Bat for a Brother
We got a phone call on Monday afternoon, June 26th, from the Trenton Fire Department Ladder 4 asking if we could set up an emergency blood drive. Firefighter Alex Boucher had been severely injured in an accident over the weekend and they wanted to do what they could to help.
On Wednesday morning, his friends and co-workers showed up in droves. Fire trucks were moved out of the bays, and we set up in the heat…with no air conditioning. Donors waited patiently. (One dad even brought his two little boys—our next generation of life-savers!)
We expected to collect about 50 units of blood. We drew over 100 at the firehouse, and donors continued to arrive at our Parkside Avenue center throughout the day.
We salute the fine men and women of the Trenton Fire Department, and wish a speedy and complete recovery to Alex Boucher. We’d also like to commend our staff for an outstanding performance at short notice, in high temperature and humidity.
