URGENT! TYPE O BLOOD DONORS DESPERATELY NEEDED!
We have completely depleted our Type O blood supply, and there is a desperate need for it in all of our area’s hospitals.
Type O positive blood is the most common blood type. But only thirteen percent of the population has Type O negative blood. That’s the blood type that can be used by all hospital patients, regardless of what their blood type is.
"We are begging people to please come in and donate," says CEO James J. Gosnay. "We literally have no Type O blood on our shelves, and other blood types are needed as well. We also urgently need platelet donations, as well."
Platelets are used primarily for cancer and burn victims. They contain the component that aids in blood clotting. CBC-NJ needs 50 units of platelets every day for local hospitals and the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Cancer Center in New Brunswick.
Walk-ins are welcome, but if you can donate platelets, it helps to schedule an appointment time first. We’re open Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m., Fridays from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Saturday from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Please make an appointment today. Click here to view blood drives happening in your area..

We put out an appeal for donors and received coverage from our two local daily newspapers, The Trentonian and The Times. Additionally, we received coverage on WPVI-TV, the ABC affiliate in Philadelphia.
Responding to the Call. There was a steady stream of donors on August 4th. In the first wave we had John Costanzo, who just finished donating platelets in this photo. Larry Conti helped us out with an ALYX donation of double red cells. Mary McCormick also came in that morning and donated a double unit of platelets.
We – and all of the patients whose lives you saved – are truly grateful for all of the donors who are responding to our summer shortage. |
