When Bernie Met ALYX.
Meet Bernie McLain, a regular donor with CBCNJ. Bernie has donated since 1980, and just made his first red cell automated donation with ALYX.
Bernie McClain has been a regular donor at The Community Blood Council of New Jersey since August of 1980, when he walked through our doors to donate for Ronald Gibilisco. In 1985 he switched over to donating platelets, which he has done 86 times.
Bernie is O+, making him a universal donor. As our blood supplies have been at critically low levels this January, we desperately needed his red cells. To help ease the area’s blood crisis, he was offered the opportunity of trying out our new ALXY automated collection system, which collects two units of red cells. On January 23rd he switched over to donating on ALYX. “I’m glad to be able to do it,” he says.
Bernie is a strong believer in doing community service. “As a business owner, I believe you should give back to the community,” he states. Regarding the new automated system, he says, “I think ALYX is great! It’s so quick, and you’re in and out. It’s fast and efficient, and there’s no discomfort at all.”
Bernie lives and works in Columbus, NJ where he is Vice President of Anchor Moving & Storage since 1984.
