IMMEDIATE NEED FOR BLOOD!
JANUARY IS NATIONAL BLOOD ONOR MONTH...
YOUR BLOOD DONATIONS ARE URGENTLY NEEDED!
Even though Denver is 2000 miles away, it is having a major negative impact on our local blood supply.
You see, New Jersey simply does not collect enough blood to meet its needs and we must import blood from other areas of the country. Our primary source is in Denver. This has become a major problem as that region has suffered two major blizzards in as many weeks, shutting its airport. The situation is such that even Denver's blood supplies are low. Even if their airport were open, they still would not have enough to send us.
About 2.5% of New Jerseyans donate. That's about half of the national average. Last year, we had to import approximately 74,000 units of blood to meet the state's needs.
